This weeks spotlight is a delightful space located on West 6th street in Austin, Texas and actress Sandra Bullock just happens to be the owner. She also owned Bess Bistro located across the street which have since closed. You always hear everything is bigger in Texas. In this case it’s true. At Walton’s Fancy & Staple you will find a bakery, deli, flower shop, gift shop and catering. The question is what can’t you find here? Below are the delicious details from out chat with Walton’s.

Company name the business operates under?

“Morsels LP”

Why did you choose the city of Austin?

“Our business group has been in Austin for 20 years. Austin offers the amenities of a big city but has the flavor of a small town, favoring local home-grown businesses over impersonal national chains.”

Can you tell me about Walton’s Fancy & Staple?

“To appreciate Walton’s it helps to know the history behind it. Walton’s Florist and Nursery was an iconic fixture in Westlake Hills for 40 years. In 2009, Walton’s moved to Austin’s Market District in the painstakingly renovated building that was the home of  “Fischer Brothers Grocery” (Groceries, Feed and Wood Yard) established  in 1895.

Walking into Walton’s from Sixth Street gives you a sense of Austin’s history in the century old beams, tin ceiling tiles, and antique counters, but with a taste of the modern with our stainless steel and curved glass deli cases and La Marzocco espresso machine.

Our menu ranges from cold sandwiches and salads to panini and daily specials, breakfast offerings, specialty breads, pastries, and beverages  from Walton’s own Cuvee coffee blends to a nice glass of Chardonnay or specialty cocktail. Walton’s has dining in the deli room, the Hideaway, and al fresco on 6th Street as well as delivery and catering. And guests can take home a flower arrangement or a succulent garden from our florist.”

Services you offer?

“Catering, florist, bakery, custom cakes, desserts & wedding cakes, deli counter, coffee, private events in the Hideaway Room (perfect for a bridal or baby shower).”

“Our in-house florist designs everything from luxurious flower arrangements to simple succulent gardens to pick up on a whim. Custom florals can be designed for weddings, parties, holidays, corporate events, or any occasion you have in mind.

Walton’s offers unique items including our own Bardo’s Bee Juice® honey, our own seasoning, The Good Stuff®,  Bessence® candles, our Aunt Luddy’s® White Trash Deep South Mix, and Walton’s® tote bags, shirts, mugs and hats.”

Any best-selling dishes?

“Turkey Sweet and The Gobble. Don’t forget to grab a Golden Egg on your way out.”

What make your business unique from others in Austin?

“The feel of a vintage general store offering everything from fresh-baked breads to flowers to specialty cocktails.”

You now serve cocktails?

“We serve hand spun, house made batch cocktails, including Party Thyme, Excellent: a blend of blanco tequila, ruby-red grapefruit juice and house made thyme simple syrup; the Thai, How Are Y’all?, with Deep Eddy Peach Vodka, house made Thai chili simple syrup and ginger ale; and the Lady Bird Lake, with Deep Eddy Vodka, creme de violet liqueur, and Topo Chico, garnished with fresh blackberries. Drinks are $8 each.”

Any plans for the future?

“We are continuing  to build our brand and business while maintaining the highest quality products and services our patrons expect. In the last few months we have been expanding our catering services in response to popular demand. Our long-term plans include expanding the kitchen and renovating the second floor.”
